THREE

Will turned 3 on Friday. I played hooky from school for the third year in a row and enjoyed the entire day with my most favorite three year old! We spent the morning in our pjs, watching tv, playing dinosaurs, and baking cupcakes. After Alex's nap, we met John at the galleria for a birthday lunch complete with Chick-fil-A and a ride on the carousel.
After afternoon naps, Will opened presents before we headed out to dinner. He received a baseball glove and ball to go with his T-Ball set, some dinosaur puzzles, and a new dinosaur book from Alex.
We got brave and decided to go to Ichiban. I have always thought Will would love the "cook in front of you dinner experience," and it did not disappoint! He loved all of our cook's "tricks," fire being the favorite. He even got to help crack the eggs. He played with chopsticks and even tried everything (including the soup and salad). Alex slept for the first half of dinner and was completely amused the second half with so much to watch. John and I laughed at how much more laid back we are the second time around-we would have NEVER attempted a dinner of that sort when Will was a baby!I think we are in for a roller coaster of a year with our now three year old. Three is an interesting age.....and I joke that whoever coined the term "terrible twos" never had a three year old. Will did not really become a challenge until he was about 2 years 8 months. Since then, it is been a little wild and unpredictable. He is precious and loving and kind and caring and sensitive. But he can also be a ball of emotion and you never quite know what you will get. When he doesn't get his way, sometimes he will just say ok and move on, other times he will let you know how he feels about it. And by let you know how he feels, I mean there is almost certainly some yelling and flailing involved :)
We are amazed every day at his vocabulary and sentences. He blows us away with what he remembers and understands. He is a very curious kid and likes to know why and how things work, etc. John is so great with this part of Will's personality. He takes time to teach him and explain things to him.
He is FULL of energy and ALL boy!! Right now our current obsessions are dinosaurs and anything on wheels. I feel like we must have thousands of cars, trucks, trains.....but Will appreciates the differences in each of them and they ALL get ample playing time, and most of the time at the same time, which means our entry looks more like a race track or train station than the entrance to our home.
I absolutely cannot believe we have a three year old!! He has blessed our lives and our hearts more than we ever knew was possible and life surely will never be the same!! Happy Birthday Sweet Will!!! WE LOVE YOU!
