Prepared

Whenever a big, important event is coming up in life, don't you always feel like you do your best to prepare. You make your best effort to ensure that this event goes off without a hitch. John and I got prepared for Will this weekend. We attempted to register. All along I felt that registering would make us prepared because we are telling everyone what we think we will need to bring this baby into world. Yeah right. John and I were clueless as we scanned the aisles of Target. I had the scanner. John had the check list that Target gives you that is supposed to "help" with this huge task. The list is divided into 2 categories: Must Haves and Would Be Nice To Have. We started on the first aisle and John began reading the must haves. At first it was easy. There were some things I knew my friends had used and recommended so those were a no brainer. But then there were other things that we had a hard time finding/knowing what to do with even if we scanned them. John moved on to the "would be nice to have" column and read from that list. Several things we nixed, some we added. It was going pretty quickly. John read, I scanned. "First aid kit, nail clippers...extra nipples??!!!" John looked up from the list, extremely puzzled and confused. I busted out laughing. I couldn't believe that would make even the would be nice to have column. Who registers for those?? I then had to explain to John that that particular item would be found on the bottle aisle. Only then did he understand what in the world that meant. It was hysterical. John decided that Target and their three aisles of baby gear was enough for him. Yesterday, I took a friend to Babies R Us intending to register, hoping to get all of this over in one weekend. Babies R Us was packed on Sunday afternoon. When I walked in, I had to have my name put on a list for a scanner. There were two people in front of me on the list. After my friend and I walked around Babies R Us for 45 minutes, I went back to check the list and no one had even turned in a scanner. We decided to call it a day. The workers could not tell me how long it would be or even how many scanners they had. You would think they would keep a lot of scanners in working condition so people don't get so frustrated. There were probably more in the back, the people probably just didn't take the time to change the batteries. So at least this weekend I attempted to get prepared for a baby to come and live in our house-that sounds like such a joke. In this case, I am not sure that I could ever really prepare. I can have all the right stuff but I have a feeling our world is going to be rocked...turned upside down regardless of if we have the right bath tub or diaper genie. I can't wait!

Babies R Us is always crowded on Sundays with last minute shower shoppers like me :-) Be patient, you will be prepared when the time comes all you really need from the start is tshirts with front snaps(onesies after the cord fall off) and diapers and of course those extra nipples :-) That is hilarious I can't wait to tell Greg.

Babies R Us scanners are a nightmare! It took them 30 minutes to get two scanners working when we went, and then my battery went dead after I scanned two things.
You may want to go look and write down the big stuff that you like (car seat, pack n play, etc) then do most of it on the Internet. I did that (and copied some friends' registries) for Target, and it was a much better experience:) Good luck!

Don't expect Babies R Us to be better any other weekend either! I swear all the "expecting mothers" parking places are taken up from people that aren't even pregnant. They're just ticked they never got the spot when they were because it was always so crowded!

This post made me laugh!!!! You two are going to do just fine :)
You will be wonderful parents...remember, you didn't come with instructions either,(when you were born) and you two turned out just fine with our parenting skills. :)
Can't wait either, Brookie!
love you, mom
