Too Good for a Corn Dog

It happened. For the first time, really since I found out I was pregnant, I got a craving that was not going to go away by just not thinking about it. I always thought "cravings" that pregnant woman had were just mental-it was something they wanted so they blamed it on their condition to eat whatever or get it at an unreasonable hour. While I have not really wanted anything sweet and all things salty or any kind of pasta please me, I never really considered that stuff cravings. Until tonight. I cooked dinner and we ate. I have become pretty accustomed to making dinner and then not liking it very much, even if it is a usual dish that I make and have always enjoyed it before. Tonight was no different. I made a chicken and broccoli ring, ate a little, and was done, very dissatisfied. John and I were watching T.V. when it hit me that I had to have a corn dog. WHAT? A corn dog? I don't even eat hot dogs, much less corn dogs. This is not a regular food that I enjoy. I can't remember the last time I had a corn dog. No less, I had to have a corn dog. Being comfortable on the couch with a half asleep husband was not going to stop me. John looked at me like I was crazy and just dismissed the thought, thinking that if he forgot about it, I would too. Wrong. I had my pajamas on and my hair was still partially wet from a shower so I needed him to accompany me so he could go in and get the tasty frozen treat. He was annoyed but none the less got in the car. It was 8:00. At 8:04 we arrived at Piggly Wiggly and I stayed in the car while John went inside. At 8:14 I finally see him round the corner and come out...empty handed! He has got to be kidding I think to myself. He gets in the car and says they DO NOT HAVE CORN DOGS. I asked him if he really looked and he just glared at me as if saying with his eyes, "No, I just circled the aisles for ten minutes." I could not believe this. Now mind you the Piggly Wiggly right by our house is like a mini supermarket, but they have always carried anything we have run in for (marked up from normal grocery stores by about $3 but usually worth it for the convenience). This just made me mad. The upity Piggly Wiggly was too good for corn dogs. There have got to be people that live in the Liberty Park/Mountain Brook area that want a good corn dog. They are just too embarrassed to check out with the box, is that it? They are closet corn dog eaters. This must be why they don't carry them. Unbelievable. John gets in the right turn lane to head back to our house and I just look at him. He figured our failed attempt would satisfy my craving. Exactly the opposite. So now he is really annoyed but trying to be a good husband so he turns left and we venture 10 more minutes in the opposite direction to the Publix. Hoping to restore my faith in grocery stores, John enters into Publix at 8:24. About five minutes later he returns with the box sort of behind his back. I almost had a fit thinking that they too were too good for corn dogs. Have no fear...the Publix came through in the clutch. It is 9:01 and I have two corn dogs baking in the oven. I know I am weird, but I couldn't be more excited!

Oh that is just too fantastic!!! John better get used to catering to your every whim...that won't change for a while and if Baby Vakakes is a girl it just increases exponentially. :) I agree with you that people think corn dogs (and for that matter Piggly Wiggly) are nasty. For the record, I actually have come to love corn dogs as an adult (hated them as a child) and I used to regularly shop at the Piggly Wiggly when I was little(but ours was FAAARRRRR from uppity). You enjoy every minute of it!!

Listen Brooke if you are ever in the mood for a corn dog again, you come over to the Ferguon's house. We have 36 Ballpark corn dogs just waiting to be consumed in our freezer. Bill has had a lasting relationship with those things for years, and I think he would love to hear someone else has a crazing for corn dogs (prego or not)!!! Miss you!

Why am I not surprised by your early cravings??? I am just kidding but corn dogs are good. Who knows you may start liking a lot of things you haven't eaten before. I finally cleaned out the boys clothes last night and I am paying for it today. I am getting more and more uncomfortable these days.

That is sooooo, only the beginning!! Mine was Chili Mac Hamburger Helper, and I truly cannot stand Hamburger Helper in any form or fashion.

I put more "garbage" foods into my body with Jack than with the girls...craved Barbecue House sausage biscuits for about three months. Sonic was my friend!! (For both the greasy food and Sprite over yummy crushed ice that seemed to help the endless heartburn that I blame on the baby, not the food of course!)
