Dogs Eye View

This has become Bentley's favorite past time. He loves that our front door is glass and he can see all the happenings of what is going on outside. He can see if he is on all fours but he gets a better view by perching like this. When I am at home, Bentley can either be found in the office on our old couch (he despises the new one because the leather is slippery and he falls off easily) or standing at the front door. Today I had several projects, one of which was in the foyer, and he stood there the entire time I was working. Tomorrow I will post the projects I have been working on this week!

Stud

This is what my husband looked like just minutes before leaving for his rec league softball game tonight. Hysterical! He is playing with some guys from church every Monday night. They started last week. I had to go and buy him some cleats today because he said his tennis shoes "just didn't cut it" out there on the dirt. I figured since I gave more than a few shout outs to the extraordinary Drake softball team last fall, it was now John's turn to be in the spotlight.

Elizabeth's Wedding Weekend

This is really for my mom and dad who are in France and were not able to go to the wedding. We had a great time this weekend visiting with old friends!

6 year Memorial Day

Today is mine and John's six year Memorial Day. And yes we know Memorial Day was back in May. Six years ago today John and I officially started dating. When we were about to hit the one year mark, John told me that he thought it was stupid and cheesy when couples who are dating celebrated an "anniversary." He thought those should be saved for marriage. So John decided to call June 20 our Memorial Day and we celebrated it each year that we were dating. We even remembered the year after we got married, but it is getting harder and harder to remember. October 8 seems sufficient enough. But indeed it is a very special day for John and me. We went to homecoming our junior year of high school. We were very good friends and turned into best friends but did not start dating until the summer after our freshman year of college. We hung out so much and talked on the phone every day freshman year that we might as well have been dating. So Happy Six year Memorial Day to us! I have loved every minute.

Various Updates

It is time for a new post. No Jenny, I was not going for a record on how many people could comment on just one post, but many thanks to all your comments about Baby V. We are settling into the idea and getting excited and greatly appreciate your excitement and support.
To update you on random events since we got the big news...
-Our house is still a work in progress. I am going to put some pictures at the bottom just so you can see some of the finished areas...well almost. I only took pictures of the rooms that were basically finished. Definitely not the time for a bedroom or guest room picture. But the important areas made it-the kitchen table (that we bought in Jan. because I LOVED it, but just got it put together like 3 weeks ago), the dining room (my favorite room in the house, although the one we spend the LEAST amount of time in), and the den (definitely John's favorite room in the house because of our most recent purchases, the L couch and the monster television.
-I have been in workshops for the past 2 weeks and am pleased to say that I am done with all of that until the end of July!!
-John has been a huge help as of late when I have felt like doing absolutely nothing. On Saturday, John decided it was time to cut the grass. EJ, our cousin, generously offered their old lawn mower until we could buy one. He oiled and gassed it up and pulled it out of the garage on a very hot Monday afternoon, only to see some yard men at the house next door and down the street. Sweating profusely already, John made the executive decision (I was still in a workshop) to get them to cut our grass so that he wouldn't have to. I cracked up when I got home-so much for do-it-yourself. His excuse was that he needed someone else to get it under control so that he could just maintain it...
-One of my dear friends from childhood is getting married this weekend so we have all the fun festivities beginning tonight. It should make for an eventful weekend!
I guess that is just about it...as far as a belly pic per Holly M and Jenny's request, you can forget it (even though I am definitely already showing and none of my pants fit). Yes, I am only 10 weeks. We went to dinner with a couple last night-she is due in November. I am definitely showing more than she is! John tried to make me feel better by telling me that it is just because I am shorter and so the baby has no where to go but out...right!

Happy Early Father's Day...JOHN

And I don't just mean from Bentley :) Surprise! We are expecting a baby. Trust me, we were just as shocked as you probably are. We found out about a month ago and had our first doctor appointment yesterday. Anyone who knows John has heard about our "five year plan." He made it very public knowledge. God has laughed in the face at our five year plan. We definitely weren't trying and were actually still on the pill. God's timing definitely wasn't our timing. Yesterday made it very real for us though and we are super excited about the new little addition to our family come January. My due date is January 14 so at least I will totally make it through football season (that made it a little easier to tell John). We heard the heartbeat yesterday and that was very fun. We were waiting to tell our little secret until we went to the doctor and made sure everything was okay. The doctor said everything measured perfectly and he or she has a very strong little heartbeat. We would appreciate your prayers as we venture into this very unfamiliar territory. We definitely are going to need to invest in a book about how to adjust a little pup to a baby...he is not going to like giving up his center-of-attention status!

We're Alive...I promise!!

Long time, no post! We FINALLY have internet!! That's right...13 days after we moved in. It has been so frustrating for us. We could live without cable for a week, but without internet I feel so disconnected to the world (the blog world inparticular). Moving has gone great-we are pretty much in. There is still crazy messes everywhere but at least it is somewhat settled. We love finally having a home of our own. There are still lots of things on my wish list, but that is part of the fun. I know it won't all come together in a day!
The last 2 weeks have been somewhat of a blur. John has been working every day and I have been trying to make some sense out of all the chaos of the house. Some days I would just give up and end up on the couch. John would come home and be like..."so, what did you do today?" :) I have started working part time at Shoefly, this shoe boutique in Homewood. It is something fun for me to do to keep from just sitting at home all day. I also start workshops for my new job at Liberty Park next week. So my summer is about to get busy.
We don't have very many neighbors yet, but we did meet a couple that is our age that moves in June 25. The guy was actually a fraternity brother of John's and I knew his wife sort of in high school-she went to Briarwood. She was also a pledge sister with Shealy at Auburn. So we are very excited to have a young couple three doors down from us! That is our biggest prayer-that we would meet young couples to hang out with and share this next phase of our life with...even though they will have pretty big shoes to fill since our friends in Auburn are SO great!
It is very strange being back in Birmingham. I love it, don't get me wrong. But it is just a very weird feeling. What was home to me for 18 years, now feels a little big. I know we will get used to it, but it is crazy to think that Auburn still feels a little like "home." I went to Auburn on Tuesday for a fun day with some of my girlfriends. We had lunch at my favorite Auburn spot, Big Blue Bagel, went to a movie, and then I ended up spending the night with Shealy so I was able to go to bible study. It was a lot of fun.
I promise by the end of the weekend to have some pictures up of the house. We are headed to Atlanta tomorrow for a wedding so we have a busy weekend but I promise I am officially back to blogging!
